When conducting a parent intake, try to do the following:
- Help the parent(s) feel comfortable and at ease by setting up a receptive environment
- If possible, hold meetings in a pleasant setting
- Never view parents as adversaries even if they are angry or hostile
- Inform parents ever step of the way as to the purpose of meetings and the steps involved in the assessment process
- Inform parents of the types, names, and purposes of the evaluation instruments chosen by the MDT
